Open House: July 6th, 2025

Open House - Des Moines, IA - 1:00-4:00 p.m.

We'll be gathering at Urban Dreams, a community center in Des Moines, Iowa on Sunday, July 6 from 1-4 p.m.

Our own health programs manager Catherine Wales will be with us! Her presentation will begin at 2:00. Please greet her as we gather for the first time since before 2020! We'll also have a tribute to the late Phil Latessa.

Catherine Wales

We are excited to have Empower Tanzania health programs manager Catherine Wales visit the United States for several weeks in July. Catherine has done exemplary work for Empower Tanzania for over 8 years, and it is time she met our US contingent in person. Catherine lost both of her parents when she was a teenager, but surmounted various challenges to achieve a a Diploma in Development planning and Bachelor of Rural Development degree. 

She has been a vital part of Empower Tanzania’s health programs due to her sharp mind, logical thinking, and ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders such as government, religious, and civil society organization leadership. She has even had several meetings with the Tanzania president’s office health cabinet members and impressed them with her knowledge and manner leading to Empower Tanzania’s expanding its programming to another region of Tanzania.  

Catherine will be staying with various Empower Tanzania volunteers during her stay in the US and is very excited to have this experience. Please contact us if you would like to do something to introduce Catherine to our culture.
